SWAT studio glass boxes

SWAT is a new achievement of the recently founded department of AE&T at the Delft University of Technology. The SWAT design methodology has been developed to demonstrate that, through building interventions at all scales of urban inquiry sustainable lifestyles are possible within existing cities.

My proposal focuses on the revitalization of an old factory in the middle of a protestant community in Belfast’s city center. The design is part of a bigger master plan which desires to dissolve political borders in the city over time by implementing sustainable building interventions. The factory is one of many vacant buildings in the area. Since the building is structurally sufficient, the main focus lays on improving the facade to create a vivid interaction with the direct context. The glass boxes provide a small technological intervention to improve social interaction by adding both functionality and sustainability.
