Extreme Project | Research station in Antarctica
This EXTREME project was about designing a research station in a extreme situation, in this case Antarctica. With respect to climate, location and function, a smart proposal was demanded to offer answers to some very extreme design problems, including a low temperature, extreme winds, difficulty to transport, off grid scenario, some months without sun or without darkness.
The proposal shows a building which can function as the eye of a hurricane, while extreme weather is all around, the inner part has very calm conditions. By using computer software, this calm zone has been optimized in terms of both shape and dimensions. In this zone, the researchers are encouraged to walk outside when moving in between the different functions to offer a more healthy environment.
